Murder of unidentified baby in North Queensland

At about 8.40am on Saturday, 4 May 1996 the upper torso of a newborn male baby was discovered on the driveway of a residence in Hayward Street, Mooroobool, a suburb of Cairns (North Queensland).

The body had been dragged a short distance to this location by two dogs. The baby was no more than 48 hours old and a Post Mortem revealed the probable cause of death as drowning.

Investigating police strongly suspect that the mother of the infant resides, or resided, in the immediate area of Mooroobool but inquiries to date have failed to identify her.

The Minister for Police and Corrective Services has approved a reward of $250,000 be offered for information which leads to the apprehension and conviction of the person or persons responsible for the murder of an unidentified newborn baby at Cairns on or
