Police officer assaulted in Kelvin Grove

Police are seeking public assistance to help identify a man, after a police officer was assaulted in Kelvin Grove.

The 44-year-old senior sergeant was patrolling on Kelvin Grove Road at around 11.10pm, when he noticed a man walking in the path of traffic.

The officer intercepted the man and proceeded to speak to him.

When the man became agitated, the officer advised him that he was under arrest due to his behaviour.

When the officer tried to handcuff the man, the man struck the officer and pushed him to the ground, before fleeing on foot.

The officer suffered an injury to his elbow but did not require medical treatment.

The man is described as Caucasian, around 180cm tall, with short brown hair.

He was last seen wearing a black t-shirt, dark shorts and black shoes.

Police are asking anyone with information to come forward.
